IRCC announced on August 20, 2018, that up to 20,000 Parents’ and Grandparent’s sponsorship applications will be accepted in 2019. The application cap was 5,000 in 2014 and increased to 17,000 in 2018. Like last year, the interest to Sponsor Form will be available online at the beginning of 2019. The most significant change for 2019 will be – the IRCC will invite eligible sponsors to submit an application to sponsor their parents and grandparents based on the order in which IRCC receive their interest to Sponsor Forms instead of randomly selecting the sponsors to apply in the past. In other words, it will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Due to the high demand in the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) and IRCC was able to reduce the inventory of applications from 167,00 to 26,00 in June 2018 the cap was increased to 20,000 for the year 2019. Stay tuned for more updates that will be announced in the fall of 2018. If you need more information please get in touch with us.
